What is assembling is the first court in history to bring judgment against the Vatican and the Crown of England as institutions. But our Court also signals the dawn of a new notion of justice: one defined by the people themselves, and especially by the historic victims of church and state, to bring about not only a judgment on their persecutors, but a new political and spiritual arrangement to undo the systems responsible for intergenerational crimes against humanity

Two great principles summarize this Natural Law:

1. All things exist and are held in common. By the state of nature, no one has any more of a claim to the earth than another, as noted by a founder of modern law, Thomas Hobbes:

“I demonstrate in the first place, that in the natural state of men (which state we may properly call the state of nature) all men have equal right unto all things” (Leviathan, 1651)

2. The Law does harm to no-one. (Actus Regis Nemini Facit Injuriam) Arising from the Ten Commandments and God’s law to do no harm to one’s neighbour, this principle forms the basis of modern law.

While the complaint has objectively very little chance to lead to the prosecution of anyone, let alone provide remedies for the hundreds of victims of pollution in Ecuador, it sheds light on an interesting and often overlooked aspect of the current international criminal legal system, namely that business people can be prosecuted before the ICC irrespective of the fact that the ICC has no jurisdiction over corporations.

The omission of legal persons from the Rome Statute should not be interpreted as a concerted exercise that reflected a legal view that legal persons are completely beyond the purview of international criminal law. We thus hold that no definitive legal conclusion can be drawn from the exclusion of legal persons from the jurisdiction ratione personae of the ICC. Instead, it is a reflection of the lack of a political (rather than legal) consensus to provide such jurisdiction in the Rome Statute. [para. 66]

Last December when protesters in Kiev took to the streets to demand their President sign a treaty with Europe, nobody expected that within six months the country would be torn apart by a brutal civil war, with thousands dead and over two million displaced. At the time, we highlighted some strange goings-on: secret snipers, hired thugs and tortured activists. Months later, we still don´t know who ordered these actions. Since then, The White House and the Western media have continually blamed Russia for the unrest; for shooting down passenger plane MH17, for acting aggressively, for posing a threat to the USA and indeed the entire world.

But aside from what we are told to believe, let´s ask some intelligent questions. Who stands to gain from the war in Ukraine? Which key player in this modern Game of Thrones is destabilizing countries all over the world, and what is Ukraine´s new President doing to smooth out plans for the IMF, World Bank, U.S fracking companies, and wait for it- even Monsanto- to take over the country?

“Consequences are most of the diseases and conditions associated with a Western diet, which include gastrointestinal disorders, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, autism, infertility, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.”
While being the most popular herbicide in global use, Glyphosate may also be the most deadly. And yet the USDA purposely avoids testing for it on foods, claiming that such tests are too costly and impractical.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity to Reuters, a cowardly USDA spokesman stated that tests for Glyphosate are “extremely expensive” to perform on a regular basis, so the agency simply doesn’t conduct them.

It is 20 years since the FDA approved the Flavr Savr tomato for human consumption, the first genetically engineered food to gain this status. Since then, genetically modified food has become a significant part of the human diet in many parts of the world, particularly in the US. In 2013 roughly 85 per cent of corn and 90 per cent of soybeans produced in the US were genetically modified.

Given the ubiquity of this kind of foodstuff, you could be forgiven for thinking that the scientific debate over its safety has been largely settled. It is certainly true that a large number of scientists seem to take that view. In 2012, for example, the American Association for the Advancement of Science declared that genetically modified crops pose no greater risk than the same foods made from crops modified by conventional plant breeding techniques.

Today, Nassim Nicholas Taleb at New York University and a few pals say that this kind of thinking vastly underestimates the threat posed by genetically modified organisms. “Genetically modified organisms represent a public risk of global harm,” they say. Consequently, this risk should be treated differently from those that only have the potential for local harm. “The precautionary principle should be used to prescribe severe of limits on genetically modified organisms,” they conclude.
