Note: I wanted the actual percentage relative to cast votes and potential votes, not just the votes cast for Macron or Le Pen. So Le Pen and Macron accounted for 66.01% of registered voters. In every election since 1965 according to the above image, the “blank” vote was higher in the 2nd round. So to see figures quoted of 66% and 34% conveniently ignores abstentions and blank votes.
Typically since 1965, we see double the blank votes in the 2nd round This would generate a figure of 5.2%. If however the blank votes were significant, say 10% or more, the claim of 66% winning margin becomes even more untenable.
